Student Assistant – Casual Jobs in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada at University of Regina
Position Summary
The primary responsibilities of this position are varied and will include assisting in the areas of University Archives and Library User Services.
The student assistants will also be responsible for opening the Library on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Areas of Responsibility and Typical Duties:
Library User Services:
· Shifting and re-shelving of library material
· Charging and discharging library materials
· Initiating searches, recalls and holds
· Updating and validating of borrower information
· Creating patron records for new patrons
· Process library fine payments
· Process library room bookings
· General reception duties include, but not limited to answering phone calls and directing patrons
University Archives:
· Digitization of selected archival collections, including textual, photographs and slides
· Archival collection preparation work for processing, including re-housing, scanning/copying, re-boxing and the creation of basic inventory lists
· Moving of boxes and archival material in and between storage spaces.
Position Requirements
· Candidate must be registered as a student in the current semester (Fall 2024) at the University of Regina
· Excellent oral and written English language abilities
· Strong
attention to detail
· Ability to deal courteously and tactfully with the Library’s clients
· Experience in working with MS365 Suite of products such as Word and Excel and ability/willingness to learn new software
· Ability to function effectively as a team member
· Previous experience working in a library or archives environment would be an asset
· Knowledge of library classification system would be an asset
· Knowledge of standard digitization practices would be an asset
