The New Mexico Forestry Division retains lead responsibility for wildland fire management on all non-federal, non-tribal, and non-municipal lands, maintaining fire suppression capacities and emphasizing public and firefighters¿ safety. The Forestry Division promotes healthy, sustainable forests and watersheds in New Mexico for the benefit of current and future generations.
Why does the job exist?

The purpose of this position is to serve as the focal point for fiscal/budget, payroll, human resource, and office administrative functions of the Forestry Division’s Las Vegas District. This position is responsible to assure financial and administrative matters of the district are managed in a professional, timely, and accurate manner. In addition, this position assists with multiple wildfire suppression activities of the Division, such as, but not limited to, resource orders, RMP fire reimbursements, detailed fire expenditures, Land Use Agreements (LUA), AD time, purchase card use, fire card use, out of state fire assignment support, Wright Express (WEX) bill with backup, and cost projections.
How does it get done?

The Administrative Management Officer (AMO) prepares and processes purchase documents and payment vouchers. They conduct administrative duties and maintain and track the district budget. The AMO conducts office management activities such as receptionist duties; filing and file maintenance; maintaining an inventory of office and cleaning supplies; maintenance of office machines, telephone system, and data systems; administrative training of District staff; payroll; maintenance and accounting of petty cash; and human resources. They provide wildland fire suppression and business support for the district. The AMO assists the district with delivery of its natural resource public education and information program.

Minimum Qualification

Associate degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration and two (2) years of directly related experience in budgeting, accounting, and/or auditing. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience. For use at the State Investment Council only: any budgeting, accounting, and/or auditing experience is acceptable.
Employment Requirements

Express ideas orally and in writing. Demonstrate an understanding of forest management techniques and familiarity with wildland fire response and administrative functions.

Must maintain and possess a current New Mexico Driver’s License and Defensive Driving Certificate.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended periods of sitting. Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Occasional day/overnight travel utilizing a District vehicle. Will be required to work irregular or extended hours including weekends and holidays during periods of wildland fire activity.
