Cornell’s Division of Student and Campus Life’s Business Service Center provides centralized financial, accounting, reporting, payroll and analytical services to units within the division. This team is laser-focused on ensuring accuracy and efficiency of financial data input and working closely with units to provide financial guidance and support.
This team is currently in search of a temporary position to help provide accounting support in the areas of accounts receivable, payable, and general ledger as well as provide support to our payroll and student employment function.
This temporary appointment is a 6-month, benefits eligible position. Extensions beyond that, including promotive opportunities into a full-time role, depend on anticipated business needs and work performance. The pay rate will be approximately $22.00/hour but will be commensurate with experience.
General responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Process financial transactions focused mainly on accounts payable and student payroll, ensuring compliance and consistency
Accurately apply account numbers to transactions and understand impacts on financial statements
Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers including helping to interpret and advise on appropriate university policy & procedures
Effectively communicate, collaborate and build relationships with colleagues across our team and multiple units
Support the implementation of best practices and provide support to other teams during peak work periods as needed

In this role, we require:
Formal Training beyond a High School Diploma and at least a year of relevant experience. Specific experience in processing transactions related to accounts payable, payroll, or general accounting is highly preferred.
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Skilled in Microsoft products including Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
Must have ability to handle confidential information with discretion, communications are often urgent and of a sensitive or confidential nature

This position is located in Ithaca, New York. The successful applicant will be expected to work a hybrid schedule. Remote work options available based on work performance and business needs. The New York Convenience of employer guidelines require New York State individual tax reporting and withholdings for this position. Additional individual state income tax filings may also be required if working temporarily outside New York State.
