The New Hanover County Senior Resource Center is seeking dynamic individual who will serve as ourTransportation Program Assistant. This position provides broad support for senior transportation operations to include, scheduling trip appointments, administrative duties, data entry and reporting, providing customer service support, and operating a 12-passenger para-transit van.

The ideal candidate must have excellent customer service, communication, and inter-personal skills to interact with various groups of people including older adults, caregivers, co-workers and supervisor; excellent driving skills, excellent computer skills, the ability to problem solve and make critical decisions and above all, an overwhelming desire to serve the citizens of our county.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Maintains safety checks and cleanliness of the SRC para-transit van and fleet to coordinates with vehicle management to schedule mechanical maintenance.

Interviews and registers eligible clients which includes fielding telephone inquiries; assessing eligibility; completing state-mandated forms; and conducting reassessments.

Arranges trip schedules and reservations for clients using software, spreadsheets, and various types of communication to inform transportation vendors of schedules.

Assists with the planning and implementation of day trips.

Maintains effective SRC van routes.

Operates a 12-passenger para-transit van to provide safe and reliable transportation for older adults to and from scheduled trips, outings, and appointments.

Responsible for compliance with all grant document retention standards.

Willing to learn, understand, and implement federal, state and local transportation regulations.

Required skills include:

Strong computer/technical skills (Microsoft Office, especially Excel)

Ability to learn transportation management software

Ability to operate a large para-transit van and process a clean driving record

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

Time management, ability to multi-task and solve problems

Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Must be available to report for emergency work assignment during emergency situations.

Employment Type:
Full time, non-exempt
This position is 100% grant funded.

Salary Information:
The hiring range for this position is$36,325 – $49,038 annually
Salary will be determined based on qualifications, internal equity, budget, and market considerations.
