This is an office based position, Monday-Friday, full time.
This position is located in the OSH Winston-Salem office.
The recruitment salary for this position is $37,782 – $43,000.
The North Carolina Department of Labor is charged by statute with promoting the health, safety and general well-being of the workers in the state. The Occupational Safety and Health Division (OSH Division or OSHNC) of the Department of Labor, under the direction of the North Carolina Deputy Commissioner of Labor, is the lead state agency with the responsibility of fostering safe and healthy workplaces for more than four million employees and migrant workers in more than two hundred seventy-five thousand workplaces in North Carolina by educating, developing, and enforcing compliance to safety, health, and agriculture laws, rules, regulations, and standards.
OSH Compliance Bureaus: OSH Compliance, comprised of the East and West Bureaus, conducts inspections to identify safety and health hazards that are in violation of OSHA standards, documents those violations, and then issues the appropriate citations and penalties per established procedures. The Compliance inspectors identify corrective measures for each hazard and work closely with the employer to ensure implementation of those measures. They investigate safety & health complaints filed by employees as well as accidents, fatalities, and catastrophic events in the workplace, and assist with training & outreach activities statewide.
This position is located in the Winston Salem OSH Field Office and reports to the Program Coordinator II. Position serves as receptionist and administrative support for 2 District Supervisors and approximately 21 OSH Compliance Officers. This Position handles and directs incoming calls from businesses, government officials and the general public. Primary duties include scanning of all documents pertaining to all case file types, and all incoming and outgoing mail into the Osha Express System for compliance and the internal auditing of files in the system to ensure all procedures are followed and files are complete in the system. Other duties include the day to day processing of budget transmittals, daily and monthly bureau motor fleet management, monthly expense reports for staff, responsible for maintaining all closed files and preparation for transfer to the Planning, Statistics and Information management Bureau for archiving, and other duties as assigned.
This is an in-office position. The working hours for this position are Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
The ability to handle multiple tasks and respond cordially and effectively to public inquiries is essential.
Must pay close attention to detail and be able to complete task with a high level of detail, accuracy and confidentiality.
Must be able to establish and maintain working relationships with others and carry out general instructions, both written and oral.
Competency is required in Microsoft WORD and EXCEL.
A valid driver’s license is required.
Selected applicant must live within a 50 mile radius of the Winston-Salem OSH office or relocate within 30 days of employment.
Selected candidate must obtain a notary certification within 90 days of employment.
Knowledge of all work processes and office equipment in a large, high volume, fast paced office environment.
Experience working in SQL MDI database systems is preferred.
Occasional overnight travel is required in this position.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
