About the Position
WHO WE ARE
The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) is made up of approximately 1,300 sworn officers and approximately 650 support personnel. The Police Department was established in 1922 and today is responsible for providing service to a County with a population of over one million people.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
This Position is ONLY Open to Montgomery County Government Employees:
Current Montgomery County Government employees.
Montgomery County employee who was affected by reduction-in-force and currently have RIF priority rights.
Active Montgomery County local fire and rescue department volunteers with at least 50 points under the length of service award program (LOSAP); or
Active Project SEARCH Interns or former Montgomery County Government Customized Employment Public Interns, or Project SEARCH Interns within 24 months of completion of internship.
The expected salary range for this role on hire is $50,197 – $76,986.
This position possesses a person that has excellent customer service skills, experience working with files on a daily basis and handling money.
What You’ll Be Doing
This position will be working in our Vehicle Recovery Section with the Department. This position provides clerical work for the section. This is a full-time, in the office position.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Assisting customers via face-to-face, email, and phone. Many times, customers may be upset or disrespectful.
Scrutinizing documentation, building and maintaining paper files.
Accessing NCIC/METERS to verify information.
Reviewing paper files from other unit members to ensure completeness and accuracy prior to filing.
Taking payments and making deposits.
Opening safe for Loomis to take deposits to bank.
Answering shared email/phones and updating various databases.
Preparing and sending verified letters.
Sorting and distributing incoming mail/faxes.
Working with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Duties that may need some assistance:
Processing tow bills with finance.
Updating finance required webforms/databases.
Due to the filing system and the layout of the building, this position requires a lot of movement as almost every customer interaction requires files to be pulled and returned.
Due to the key job responsibilities, this position is not qualified to telework and is an in-person, on-site position only.
Minimum Qualifications
In addition to the MQs from the PD/Class Spec, if the minimum qualifications from the Classification Specification do not fully describe the needs of your position, add the relevant areas of experience below:
Experience: Two (2) years or progressively responsible office support experience.
Education: Graduation from high school or High School Certificate of completion, recognized in the State of Maryland.
Equivalency:
An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be substituted.
Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences
Experience dealing with upset and disrespectful customer in person, by email or on the phone.
Experience maintaining paper files and updating databases.
Experience with cash handling.
Experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
Experience working in a law enforcement environment.
