Job Summary
The Department of Corrections is hiring an Education Office Support Specialist for our Red Wing Facility! This position exists to provide administrative support to the Education Department, Pricipal, and DOC Director of Special Education in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Red Wing education program. They will be responsible for maintaining and effective and efficient school office, while keeping accurate and confidential information.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position:
Skills in business English sufficient to write, prepare, and edit materials, using correct spelling, punctuation, grammar, and sentence construction.
Knowledge of standard computer software programs for word processing, spreadsheets, and databases sufficient to create, modify, and protect them.
Ability to understand information sufficient to maintain complex K-12 educational records, files, notes, and logs
Knowledge of document or record management systems, such as the student record data systems or the Minnesota Department of Education (EDIAM system, to store, categorize, and retrieve electric files
Skills in customer service sufficient to provide prompt, courteous, and accurate information to customers in person, on the phone, and through email and other written correspondence.
Skills in accounting/budgeting/expense reporting sufficient to monitor and balance multiple budgets, process orders for materials, and verify payments for purchases.
Skills in data entry sufficient to input data quickly and accurately.
Leadwork ability to oversee, lead, train, and evaluate the work of incarcerated students and workers.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:
Experience working in a juvenile correctional setting.
Experience working in a juvenile educational setting.
Experience working with Special Education Forms and processes.
Experience with the Orijin educational tablet system.
Experience working with the OnBase data system (Odocs) or the Department of Education EDIAM system.
Experience working in a student record system, such as Synergy.
Experience using the Correctional Operations Management Systems (COMS).
Physical Requirements

Additional Requirements
The selection process may include screening the top candidate(s) on their criminal history, predatory offender registration, offender associations and/or other applicable background information in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. Top candidate(s) must pass a criminal history check which includes successful completion of all sentencing and/or restitution requirements of law enforcement jurisdictions, including probation.
Employment history/reference checks, including incidents of sexual harassment, will also be conducted on the top candidate(s) in accordance with Department of Corrections’ policy. This may include a review of job performance and discipline records.
New employees will be fingerprinted within the first 30 days of employment.
The Minnesota Department of Corrections (DOC) does not participate in E-Verify. The DOC will not sponsor applicants for work visas, including F-1 STEM OPT extensions. All applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
