Sole Practitioner – Busy law practice – Emphasis on first-party and third-party insurance matters/cases, including claim handling and claim determination issues, and representing children involved with Child Protective Services and the Juvenile Justice System – Lots of exposure to a variety of insurance cases in Texas and elsewhere, and how insurance losses/claims are investigated and determined, and lots of exposure to cases that involve allegations of abuse and neglect of children (from newborns through teens) and how an attorney ad litem and guardian ad litem (“CPS” cases) and attorney (Juvenile cases) assists children in regard to legal issues and/or best interest issues when involved with Child Protective Services or the Juvenile Justice System.

Typical Regular and Other Work/Tasks: Calendar and appointment management; “to do” list(s) management; email review, organization, and drafting; document review, organization, and drafting; opening and closing files; proof reading documents; meeting and hearing preparation; monitoring and/or participating in, and documenting matter/case-related meetings, hearings, and trials; time recording and billing; non-legal and basic legal research; and, other office-related work/tasks as assigned.

Partially Remote Position: Work is, at times, remote, sometimes for several days in a row, but attendance at the Austin office (located in Central Austin within a mile the 45th street Mopac exit) is required when requested (to be discussed in detail with applicants offered an introductory Zoom interview).

Regular Hours: Four day work week, Monday- Thursday, ten hour day, which includes an hour for lunch (so regular work time/work hours are 36 hours/week not including the hour for lunch each workday); regular start and end time each day is somewhat flexible, with a regular start time, as agreed to between the applicant (hired for the position) and attorney, between 7 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. and a regular end time between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Wage and Benefits: $48,000/yr/$4,000/month, earned and paid bi-monthly (at $2,000 each pay period); holiday time off (for certain holidays); personal time off, to include sick time off; professional development assistance; free parking; bonus possibilities of up to $250/month and other perks (to include, on occasion, attendance at UT (men’s and women’s basketball games) and lunch — all of the above benefits to be discussed with applicants offered an introductory Zoom interview).
