Assistant Dean, Registrar

The Assistant Dean, Registrar plays a critical strategic role in planning, directing, and coordinating enrollment activities, records management, and academic policies. This position serves as the Principal Designated School Official for international student visa-related issues and oversees the onboarding of all students. The role combines responsibilities of both student life management and registrar functions to ensure a seamless academic and administrative experience for students and faculty.

Duties

and Responsibilities

Strategic Management and Oversight: Lead, plan, and manage onboarding activities for all new students and programs across all campuses, including Master’s, MPhil, and PhD programs. Create annual and biennial instructional plans, including course and examination schedules for Santa Monica and DC Campuses. Facilitate communication between faculty and administration to optimize scheduling efficiency and address conflicts or concerns. Oversee the updating and maintenance of the course catalog to ensure accurate information, analyze and revise academic policies, conduct student office space allocation, and oversee administrative aspects of the PhD dissertation process.

Enrollment and Records Management: Manage the Populi online academic enrollment portal, coordinate graduation processes, and ensure the accuracy of student records. Oversee issuance of transcripts and diplomas, analyze enrollment reports, and ensure compliance with accreditation standards.

Faculty and Student Support, and Management: Provide training to faculty and staff, develop resources for students, serve as a Designated School Official (DSO), and manage staff performance and development.

Knowledge and Skills

Computer literacy, including use of financial and reporting systems and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal skills.

Effective social media communication skills including websites, Twitter, Facebook.

Supervisory experience.

Understanding of graduate education issues, accounting principles, government regulations, and graduate school processes.

Organizational and management skills, including admissions, records, personnel, and student services management.

Additional Qualifications

Budget control experience, fiscal management skills, familiarity with data management systems.

Experience in public policy school or graduate admissions preferred.

Education and Experience

MS / MA required;
Ph.D. preferred.

Minimum of 6 years relevant experience required.

Location and Salary

Santa Monica – Hybrid work arrangement

Salary Range: $88,000 – $112,400. RAND offers competitive benefits including health insurance, life and disability insurance, savings plans, paid time off, and more.
