DEFINITION
Under administrative direction, assists the Director in the daily operation and management of the General Services Department including the responsibility for planning, organizing and managing the activities of the Department through subordinate managers and supervisors and ensuring the efficient and economical delivery of services in compliance with County rules, regulations and policies. Serves as the General Services Director in the Director’s absence and performs related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives administrative direction from the Director of General Services or designee. Exercises direct supervision over management, supervisory, professional, technical, and administrative support staff through subordinate levels of supervision.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This position assists in overseeing and directing and participates in all activities of the General Services department including short- and long-term planning as well as development and administration of departmental policies, procedures, and services. This class provides assistance to the Director of General Services in a variety of administrative, coordinative, analytical, and liaison capacities. Successful performance of the work requires knowledge of public policy, County functions and activities, including the role of the Board of Supervisors, and the ability to develop, oversee, and implement projects and programs in a variety of areas.
Responsibilities
include assisting in coordinating the activities of the department with those of other departments and outside agencies and managing and overseeing the complex and varied functions of the department. The incumbent is accountable to assist in accomplishing departmental planning and operational goals and objectives. This class is distinguished from the Director of General Services in that the Director has overall management and administrative responsibility for all General Services functions, programs, and activities.
