The City of Mt. Pleasant is seeking an organized, service-focused individual to join its City Manager’s office team. If you are an MPA student or recent MPA program graduate looking for the first step to launch your career in public administration, this may be the opportunity you are looking for! Use your education and skills to provide administrative support to the City Commission and City Manager, prepare meeting agendas and packets for various boards and commissions. Research and monitor grant opportunities and prepare grant application materials. Participate in the development and administration of the City Manager’s office and special projects. The successful candidate will work closely with the City Manager, City boards and commissions, residents, community partners, and staff to support the needs throughout our community.

The successful candidate will be organized, forward thinking, and people-oriented, with exceptional customer service skills. Multi-tasking, attention to detail, problem solving, project management, and de-escalation techniques are required. Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with board and commission members, fellow employees, and the public is an expectation.

A bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, or a similar field is required. A combination of education and experience may be considered. The successful candidate must possess demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Pro, business writing, knowledge of office equipment, grammar, problem-solving skills, time management, and enjoy working with the public in a team-based environment.

The work schedule for this full-time position is Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

The major responsibilities include:

Administrative support to the City Commission, City Manager, and other boards and commissions

Agenda and meeting packet preparation

Grant and special project research and management

Other administrative duties for the City Manager’s office

Hiring wage is the low $50’s annually, depending on qualifications.
