FULL TIME

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative has an immediate opening for a Payroll Administrator. The primary function of this position will be to process payroll and all related reports in an accurate and timely manner while providing excellent internal customer service. Ensure timely completion and accuracy of all Federal, State and local reports and tax forms. This position will also provide services for the creation of accounting records and reports through established accounting practices and compliance with applicable policies, procedures and controls.

The ideal candidate should have strong verbal and written communication skills. They should possess the ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment. The candidate should be technically savvy with the ability to learn systems and be able to adapt to new situations and challenges. They will need to be committed to maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive information and possess the ability to demonstrate strong analytical/critical thinking skills. Familiarity with payroll related taxes and labor regulations are a plus.

The starting salary range for this position is $68,700-$109,900. SMECO offers an excellent benefits program including a 401k 6% dollar for dollar match and additional 3% non-elective company contribution.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Minimum Education:

Four-year college degree with emphasis in accounting or business or equivalent business experience required. Must have Fundamentals of Payroll (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification or obtain within twelve months of position award.

Minimum Experience:

Minimum six years’ progressive experience in accounting and payroll, with an emphasis in payroll, along with proficient personal computer (PC) skills. Some supervisory experience required.
