Job Duties

Applicants hired into this position who are not currently VA state government employees are eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus upon hire with signature of a 12-month agreement.

Applicants hired into this position who are currently working for VA state government are eligible for a $5,000 retention bonus after 10 months of successful service with signature of an agreement for an additional 12-months of service.

Classified Applicants hired into this position who are already working in VSP’s Firearms Transaction Center (Dept 041000), or Dispatcher function are not eligible for either a sign-on bonus upon hire or a retention bonus after 10 months.

The Virginia State Police is seeking to hire an Office Services Specialist at State Police Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. This position services a diverse background of clientele through excellent customer service. You will be trained on how to enter background check applications for perspective firearm purchasers. A typical day in this position includes but is not limited to data entry, basic computer skills and the ability to answer multiple phone lines. The position requires someone who is detail oriented, has strong communication skills and the ability to multitask.

Provides clerical assistance to the Firearms Transaction Call Center and the Firearms Special Programs Section.
Processes firearms dealer registration applications and consignment of forms.
Responds to Help Desk calls.
Conducts Query Gun Buyer transactions

Copies and distributes information to section employees and coordinates new employee processes.
Maintains the sections inventory of equipment and supplies.
Continually supports all elements of the CJIS Values, Vision, Mission, and Strategic Objectives.
Sets up and maintains the section’s files.

Minimum Qualifications

Working knowledge and demonstrated experience of office practices and procedures, filing systems, automated office
equipment, and computer formatted functions.

Skill in operating computers and using Microsoft Office applications to perform typing, data entry, record retrieval, and maintenance of computerized filing systems.
Demonstrated ability to set up and maintain files; to communicate effectively in English with Agency personnel and the general public; and to process registration applications and consignment of forms.
High school graduate or equivalent.
Must be eligible to become Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified, which requires either United States (U.S.) citizenship or having been a lawful permanent resident of the U.S. and eligible for naturalization.
Experience indicative of good communication and interpersonal skills required.
