Title: Deputy Provost
Company: PositiveLinks Asia
Location: WP. Kuala Lumpur, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
A leading international university with a growing presence in Malaysia is looking for a senior academic leader to help shape the next chapter of its campus growth story.
This is a rare opportunity to take on a genuinely strategic, high-impact leadership mandate — steering academic direction, driving new programme growth, and strengthening the institution's standing both locally and on the global stage. You'll work hand-in-hand with senior campus leadership and international faculty counterparts, with real influence over how the university's academic footprint in Malaysia evolves over the next few years.
Key Responsibilities
- Setting and delivering the academic growth strategy for the Malaysia campus, in step with the university's wider global direction
- Championing academic quality and student experience that holds up against international benchmarks
- Building and protecting relationships with regulatory and accreditation bodies, both locally and internationally
- Opening doors — forging new research collaborations, industry partnerships, and income-generating opportunities
- Stepping in as acting campus lead when needed, representing the institution externally
- Strengthening the university's standing on national research and academic quality benchmarks
- Owning budget planning and resource decisions for the academic portfolio
- Staying active as a scholar/researcher in your own right, alongside the leadership mandate
Key Requirements
- A strong academic track record, ideally with leadership experience in health sciences or a closely related field (candidates from other disciplines with strong international HE leadership backgrounds are also encouraged to apply)
- Prior experience at Dean/Head of School level or above, managing people, budgets, and academic programmes at scale
- A track record of leading change in complex, multicultural institutional settings
- Working knowledge of higher education regulation and funding — or the ability to get up to speed quickly across more than one country's system
- Genuine interest in international education and cross-border university models; overseas living/working experience is a plus
- The presence and influence to bring different stakeholders — academic, government, industry — onto the same page
- Sharp financial judgment and comfort owning budget decisions
- A natural connector, equally comfortable building relationships with government bodies, industry players, and academic peers
