IRC Background:
The IRC’s Center for Financial Opportunity (CFO) supports newly arrived refugees and other low-income individuals in achieving self-sufficiency through a range of integrated economic empowerment services. These include assistance with securing entry-level employment, advancing toward living-wage jobs, developing foundational financial literacy and asset-building skills, and launching small businesses.

The CFO also hosts a Vocational English as a Second Language (VESL) program, which equips participants with in-language job readiness training and contextualized English instruction. This tailored approach enables clients to acquire the essential language and workforce skills necessary to access and retain employment in the U.S. job market.

Job Overview: The VESL Administrative Assistant is a part-time position responsible for administrative duties for the IRC San Diego VESL Program.

Major Responsibilities: Key responsibilities include organizing and maintaining client files, preparing reports, and utilizing IRC’s Efforts to Outcomes
(ETO) database, attendance records, and other internal tracking tools to ensure accurate and up-to-date program documentation.

Administrative Duties

Maintain supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipating needed supplies, and placing orders for supplies.
Support the VESL Program in preparing for San Diego VESL events, such as classes, Enrollment/Distribution Days, Tech Testing Days & Graduation Days.
Liaise with VESL Coordinator regarding any VESL-related tasks and issues.
Assist Education & Training Program Manager with organization/updating of client files and
preparation of reports.
Follow all agency policies and protocol.
Other tasks and projects as directed by supervisor.

Job Requirements:

High school diploma required; some university education preferred.
Fluent in English with strong verbal and written communication skills.
Proficiency in language(s) spoken by IRC’s clients is desired; including Spanish, Arabic, Dari, Farsi, and/or Pashto, preferred.
Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word, and Outlook
Must be well-organized, dependable, professional, and detail oriented.
Must be flexible and adaptable to changes and challenges.
Desire to work as a team member and in a multicultural workplace.
Must have a valid driver’s license, active insurance policy, and access to reliable transportation.

Working Environment:

Standard office environment, including the current hybrid mode of remote work within San Diego County and required in-office days, and frequent ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities. The office working environment is subject to change
based on the organization’s/business’ needs.
May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
Access to a reliable vehicle to travel throughout the delivery area with a valid driver’s license and current insurance required.

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
