Position Information

A Secretary IV provides secretarial services to a program administrator or to a top echelon executive at the City policy level; and performs other related duties as required.

Current Vacancy Information:
There is one (1) vacancy with the Department of Human Resources, Administration Division. The position is responsible for providing secretarial services to the Assistant Director of Human Resources and performs other related duties as required. This position serves as a trusted personal assistant requiring a close and confidential relationship with the Assistant Director, an overall awareness of the activities and administrative framework of the entire department and its personnel, and the performance of a variety of clerical and administrative duties which are auxiliary to the work of the Assistant Director, who is responsible for assisting the Director of Human Resources in the overall direction and administration of the Human Resources Program for the City and County of Honolulu.

If you qualify for the position, your name will be placed on an eligible list for further consideration. This list may be used to fill current and future vacancies in this and/or other departments at the same or lower levels.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school. Responsible work experience which demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Five (5) years of secretarial, stenographic or substantive clerical experience.

Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of office practices and procedures, basic principles and capabilities of word processors and microcomputers, as required; filing methods and systems; grammar, spelling and word usage use of standard office equipment; principles and practices of supervision, the ability to understand and effectively use word processing and other software applications, give and follow oral and written instructions, understand and interpret laws, ordinances, rules and regulations, summarize and brief materials, type and/or key/input information accurately, transcribe notes accurately, as required, and deal tactfully and effectively with employees and the public.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of an appropriate valid driver’s license, as required.
