Tidewater Community College has served South Hampton Roads – both students and employers – for 50 years. It has grown from 1 campus into a regional educational and economic force. TCC is the largest provider of higher education and workforce services in Hampton Roads, enrolling nearly 28,000 students in 2019-20. Founded in 1968 as a part of the Virginia Community College System, Tidewater Community College (TCC) services South Hampton Roads with 4 campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, and Virginia Beach, 7 regional centers and 2 important cultural institutions. The college had 3,203 graduates in 2019-2020, 40 percent of whom pursued degrees that would let them transfer to 4-year institutions. Of South Hampton Roads residents enrolled in higher education 36% enrolled at TCC. TCC’s institutional accreditation is affirmed through 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
This position will manage all aspects of the Health Professions Pathway office to include developing and enhancing internal and external communications in order to provide extraordinary service to the students, faculty and staff, and to the public to achieve the college’s mission and goals.Coordinate and manage the academic pathway office communication via in-person, mail, telephone, fax, and computer and office processes to include compiling reports, coordinating and scheduling meetings, taking meeting minutes, and organizing meeting materials. Position will assist the Pathway Dean with the overall coordination of activities supporting college and pathway objectives, pathway correspondence, academic programs, and serve as the first point of contact for internal and external constituencies. This person greets visitors (students, faculty and staff) to the office, maintains confidential records (paper and electronic), completes schedule entry into student information system, coordinates classroom usage, room change requests and reservations, creates and updates databases and spreadsheets, coordinates textbook orders, and provides administrative support to the dean faculty and staff when necessary. Position will be expected to resolve issues in a proactive and positive manner and keep acceptable documentation of steps taken to do so. Position must be able to work in a high-volume environment and multitask, working with all campus and college departments and personnel. Position must be familiar with college policies and procedures and be able to interpret and follow them with minimal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in diverse communities.
Ability to work in a high volume, fast paced, multi-tasking, team-oriented environment, while maintaining a positive and professional approach to duties and responsibilities assigned or assumed.
Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
Knowledge of office management and administrative principles and procedures.
Ability to coordinate and organize meetings and/or special events.
Ability to use personal computer software including word processing; ability to maintain, create and update databases and spreadsheets; and conduct database queries.
Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally with campus faculty, staff, students, and the public, maintaining professional and timely correspondence using proper grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures in a wide variety of complex situations.
Ability to work independently, communicate proactively, and problem-solve.
Knowledge of appropriate methods of ordering, organizing, budget tracking, and maintaining office supply inventory.
Experience in an office setting with multiple functional responsibilities.
Additional Considerations:
Ability to accurately enter and maintain class schedules, room use schedules, and faculty contracts.
Knowledge of and experience working with student information systems, preferably PeopleSoft.
Experience using procurement software (eVA).
Experience managing a budget.
Experience serving diverse customers.
Experience in academic setting.
