We are currently looking for an HR Business Partner for our client based in Tokyo
MISSION
As HR Business Partner – Japan, you will play a key role in supporting the local leadership team and employees by aligning HR practices with business objectives while ensuring compliance with Japanese labor laws and global company standards.
Reporting directly to the HR Director at the HQ in Switzerland, you will act as a trusted advisor on all HR topics, drive talent and organizational initiatives, and contribute to a positive and high-performing workplace culture.
This role requires a strong balance between operational HR excellence and strategic partnership within a global organization.
TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
HR Business Partnership
• Partner with the leadership team to support business strategy and organizational development
• Provide guidance on employee relations, performance management, and workforce planning
• Support managers on leadership topics, coaching, and team development
• Act as a trusted advisor on people matters and change initiatives
HR Operations & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with Japanese labor laws and internal policies
• Oversee employment lifecycle processes (hiring, onboarding, development, offboarding)
• Maintain accurate employee records and HR documentation
• Manage contracts, policies, and internal procedures
Team Management
• Supervise and support the local HR & Admin team
• Ensure effective coordination of HR and office administration activities
• Promote a collaborative and service-oriented team environment
Talent Management & Development
• Support recruitment processes in collaboration with Global Talent Acquisition
• Drive onboarding and employee engagement initiatives
• Coordinate training and development activities
• Support performance review cycles and succession planning
Compensation & Benefits
• Support salary review processes and ensure internal equity
• Coordinate payroll activities with external providers and Finance
• Manage local benefits administration and vendor relationships
Culture & Employee Experience
• Promote company values and contribute to a positive workplace environment
• Support internal communication and engagement initiatives
• Handle employee relations topics with professionalism and discretion
HR Projects
• Participate in global HR initiatives and local projects
• Contribute to continuous improvement of HR processes and systems
• Support HR digitalization and reporting
Additional Responsibilities
• Perform other duties as assigned, depending on business needs and organizational priorities
EDUCATION & PERSONAL SKILLS
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
• Minimum 4 to 6 years’ HR experience, ideally in an international environment
• Strong knowledge of Japanese labour law and HR practices
• Experience as HR Generalist or HR Business Partner preferred
• Ability to work in a matrix organization with global stakeholders
• Strong interpersonal, coaching, and communication skills
• High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism
• Proactive mindset with strong problem-solving abilities
• Comfortable working in a dynamic and evolving environment
Languages:
• Japanese — Native or fluent (mandatory)
• English — Business fluent (mandatory)
