About the Department

The Human Resources department within the Biological Sciences Division (BSD) of the University of Chicago provides HR support to BSD administrative and operational leaders for over 2400 staff employees in mission critical research positions. Established in 1930, the BSD is comprised of faculty from the clinical and basic sciences. In this unique academic community, a unified division delivers undergraduate, graduate, medical, and postgraduate education in the biological sciences together with outstanding patient care and world-renowned research. The BSD is the largest unit of the University and currently includes approximately 135 faculty in the 10 basic science departments, over 800 faculty in 13 clinical departments, and 2400 staff members. The BSD includes the Pritzker School of Medicine (PSOM), approximately 24 academic units, degree-granting committees, and research centers and institutes. The BSD is located on the University’s main campus in Hyde Park, adjacent to the University of Chicago Medical Center, and 20 minutes south of downtown Chicago.

Job Summary

The Biological Sciences Division is looking for a strong Human Resources Reporting Analyst with exceptional interpersonal and analytical skills to support the HR Team who will directly report to the Director of workforce strategy and supporting HR Partners by providing compensation data for equity reviews and guidance in stating salary offers. We are looking for someone to support the day-to-day administration of Workday and reporting. This role will have a broad range of exposure in maintaining, supporting, and reporting across Payroll, Benefits, Talent Acquisition, and Onboarding/Offboarding. Reporting to the Director of Workforce Strategy, this position is a key member of the team that supports all aspects of BSD Human Resources reporting and analytics capability.

In this role, we are seeking a professional who will work collaboratively with professionals across the BSD departments to define and implement reporting requirements that are in line with Human Resources initiatives and the overall BSD vision. The analyst will help foster consistent metrics and reporting, in addition to organizational agility and change management readiness capability for leaders and staff, enabling transformation in technology, process, and organizational job design.

Responsibilities

Collect and compile HR metrics and data from a variety of sources including our HCM system, Workday, employee surveys, exit interviews, employment records, government labor statistics, competitor’s practices, and other sources.

Create simple to complex report queries in Workday to respond to ad-hoc reporting requests Based on metrics and analysis, make recommendations for policies and activities to improve areas of opportunity including suggestions to attract and hire qualified candidates, to motivate and retain employees, to address staffing issues, and to maintain legal compliance.

Maintain HR Dashboard in PowerBi and manage relevant HR metrics for business leaders to address improvement areas.

Analyze data and statistics for trends with regards to recruitment practices, candidate sources, turnover, and compliance.

Assist BSD HR to leverage data analytics to inform the design of programs and measure their success against stated goals and objectives.
