About the Department

The University of Chicago Comprehensive Cancer Center (UCCCC) is an integral component of the Biological Sciences Division (BSD). The BSD is the largest of four Divisions of the University and includes the Pritzker School of Medicine. UCCCC administers four established scientific programs, and the NCI-sponsored Cancer Center Support Grant provides funding for ten Shared Resources. The Comprehensive Cancer Center is comprised of over 150 faculty members from twenty departments with members currently being awarded over $47 million in total direct costs in peer-reviewed cancer research grants, and $28 million in non-peer reviewed grants and contracts. The activities of the Center are broad and varied, including research, training and education, communications, fundraising, marketing, clinical trials management and community outreach.

UCCCC has one of the largest cancer clinical trials programs in the country and in the Chicago area with nearly 500 adult and pediatric therapeutic trials actively accruing patients. Many of these studies are investigator-initiated, including Phase I or I/II trials, demonstrating UCCCC commitment to translate basic research findings to the clinic through proof-of-principle and early phase studies. UCCCC opens over 250 new trials each year and accrues approximately 900 participants to therapeutic trials each year.

Job Summary

The job manages IT projects typically involving multiple groups in the IT Function. Uses deep knowledge of IT processes, leadership skills, and breadth of experience to manage budgets, resources, and schedules. Coordinates work of IT staff and to resolves complex issues to ensure project goals and requirements are met.

The IT Project Management, Specialist works as part of the UCCCC Informatics team. They will lead and coordinate a number of high-level and high-impact IT projects, driven by the mission and goals of the UCCCC, ensuring they are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. Practicing effective collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, including clinicians, researchers, IT specialists, and administrative staff, is a key element for success in this role. They will participate in daily huddles with the CCC IT team as well as maintain comprehensive project documentation and provide regular updates to leadership and stakeholders on project status, risks, and achievements. Additionally, they would also be involved in ad-hoc analytics projects deemed high-priority for the UCCCC leadership, as needed.

Responsibilities

Be a key driver of the institutional Clinical Trials Management System (CTMS) deployment activities on behalf of the cancer center.

Work with the cancer center and divisional leadership on prioritizing key clinical research operations digital transformation projects and working with institutional resources and collaborators to monitor delivery of those initiatives.

Daily huddles with CCC IT team members.

On-going project touch-points, providing regular updates to leadership and stakeholders on project status, risks, and achievements.

Continuously moving assigned projects forward while helping to remove pain-points or blocking issues.

Ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
