Operations Manager – Planning, Coordination & Business Support
We are seeking a proactive and highly organized Operations Manager to serve as the right hand to our Director of Operations. This critical role combines production planning, scheduling, and coordination with day-to-day administrative and business support to help our sheet metal fabrication facility run smoothly and scale effectively.
This person will focus on translating high-level goals into executable schedules, managing production flow, coordinating shipping, and driving administrative follow-through on operational and improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, brings structure to complexity, and is motivated by making the business more effective every day.
Key Responsibilities – Production Planning & Coordination
• Develop and manage daily, weekly, and long-term production schedules, aligning demand, labor, and material availability.
• Build and maintain capacity planning models and tools to optimize throughput and reduce bottlenecks.
• Act as a hub for cross-functional coordination between sales, engineering, production, and purchasing.
• Administer production control processes — ensuring job travelers, material kits, and work orders are aligned and ready for execution.
• Monitor job status and delivery risks; coordinate adjustments with stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate records and job tracking within ERP systems.
Administrative & Business Management Support
• Drive execution of operational improvement and business development projects, ensuring deadlines are met and priorities stay visible.
• Prepare reports, dashboards, and executive summaries to support decision-making and operations reviews.
• Assist the Director of Operations with tracking open action items, follow-ups, and cross-functional tasks.
• Help manage vendor coordination, quotes, documentation, and correspondence as needed.
• Support budget tracking, data collection, and operational planning activities.
• Serve as a key contact for administrative requests from internal teams, customers, and suppliers as delegated.
Process Improvement & Enablement
• Support the implementation of lean practices, standard work, and process documentation.
• Identify and implement administrative tools to improve visibility and accountability (e.g., checklists, trackers, SOPs).
• Partner with leads and managers to eliminate coordination gaps and improve interdepartmental handoffs.
Requirements
Qualifications
• 10+ years experience in sheet metal manufacturing.
• Must have 5+ years of foreman or operations management in a sheet metal job shop.
• Strong working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems, scheduling, and capacity planning tools.
• Proven experience with administrative project tracking, business reporting, or operational enablement.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail; able to manage multiple priorities across functions.
• Clear communicator with the ability to synthesize information and drive clarity across teams.
• Self-starter who thrives in a support role with high ownership and follow-through.
• Experience with lean principles, continuous improvement, or project management is a plus.
