SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

The Float Patient Service Representative (PSR) is responsible for proper execution of daily front desk operations, greeting and checking in all patients for office appointments across multiple locations as needed for coverage. This includes but is not limited to, paperwork for patients to fill out, scanning insurance cards, entering, and updating all demographic information into the electronic health record, entering referrals for office visits into EMR, scanning for staff as needed, and working closely with physicians and staff.

As the first face a patient sees upon arrival, they set a standard and tone of what should be a superior patient experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Registers and checks patients in and out, updating all changes to demographic and insurance information for proper billing; completes in practice management system and electronic record system.

Travels to assigned locations as needed for coverage.

Secures payments from patients for office visits and/or prior balances.

Balances and reconciles payments daily.

Checks insurance eligibility through EMR or payor websites.

Reschedules patients on assigned bump/wait lists and process referral letters as needed.

Maintains daily petty cash/patient change fund log sheet.

Schedules new and follow-up appointments.

Answering incoming calls, completes, routes, and directs as appropriate.

Knowledge of all insurance carrier requirements and referrals needed.

Attends all department staff meetings.

Participates in orientation and training of new staff members.

Maintains detailed knowledge of practice management system and electronic medical record system.

Maintains a neat work area.

All other job duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Educationand/or experience in a medical office setting; medical terminology preferred.

Goodcommunicationand customer service skills. Ability to communicate clearly in person and/or on the phone and establish/maintain cooperative relationships with patients, physicians, and staff.

Basic knowledge of keyboard and accurate data entry skills.

A team player who works well under pressure.

Ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively.

Ability to read, understand, and follow oral and written instructions. Can file correctly using alpha and numeric systems.

Experience with electronic medical records, and electronic mail would be very helpful.

Ability to travel between offices if needed.

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS

Medical office setting, Hanover will be primary location when not floating for coverage.

Well-lighted, well-ventilated, adequate space.

Some exposure to communicable diseases and/or other conditions common to a medical office setting.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS

Sitting for 7-8 hours a day.

Must be able to view a computer screen for an extended period.

Must be able to change roles as the typical weekly schedule may vary.

Must be able to travel to various locations as needed for coverage.
