Job Overview

TheSenior Development Associate for Regional and Special Projectshas a key role within the Development team, and the greater Office ofAdvancement. In a highlycollaborativerole, they specifically support the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic (SEMA) Regional Development team, and provide strategic Special Project support and focus for the broader University Regional Development team.

They work very closely with the immediate group of 3-4 major gift officers (MGOs) on the SEMA team, who are engaging, cultivating and securing philanthropic support from the Georgetown donor community in various regional markets. They help to ensure these MGSO’s get the high-level administrative and strategic support they need to properly maintain a focus on their portfolio work; building meaningful donor relationships and raising significant
philanthropy in support of the University’s priorities.

These responsibilities can include management of portfolio reviews and donor strategy; identifying and researching current and potential donors to the university; data integrity and portfolio maintenance; gift reports; event planning and execution; travel support and expenses; proposal coordination; ask and gift tracking and related formal documentation; and other full-spectrum support needs that MGOs might have in their respective work.

Special Projects for the broader Regional Development team might include but are not limited to assisting other regional or unit development teams on deployments, research, and other miscellaneous tasks; supporting other operations-related tasks in the Office ofAdvancement; and contributing to specific programs and projects in coordination andcollaborationwith the development team to move forward strategic initiatives in the Office ofAdvancement.

In addition to the support and project scope, the SDA role holds an opportunity for an aspiring frontline development officer tolearn and growand become prepared to be a competitive candidate for positions within Georgetown’s Development office.

They take on management of a small, regionally-focused portfolio, focused on annual-fund level donors and qualification of prospective donors; and are expected to conduct a set number of annual visits – often with a Development Officer colleague – and complete appropriate follow up, including activity reports, as they move this portfolio through the donor lifecycle.

There is also great growth opportunity externally outside of direct portfolio management. The SDA may be expected to staff some principal deployment activity in specific regional markets, incollaborationwith their manager and other development officers. They may also assistAdvancementcolleagues and Frontline staff with volunteer and board 7tmanagement, as they continue to mature in the role.
