About the Position:
We are seeking motivated candidates for the position of Overlimit Permit Office Specialist in the Overlimit Permit/Operating Authority Unit. As an Overlimit Permit Office Specialist, you will be managing overlimit permits for non-divisible loads. In this position, you’ll work closely with state and local agencies, providing excellent customer service, ensuring compliance with transportation regulations, and helping to streamline the permitting process. In this role, you will:
Oversee daily operations of the Overlimit Permit/Operating Authority unit, ensuring timely issuance of permits for non-divisible overlimit loads.
Serve as a subject matter expert, explaining and interpreting permit rules and policies to motor carriers, agents, and the public.
Review and process overlimit permit applications, ensuring compliance with state and federal guidelines.
Manage routing information and coordinate with MDOT, State Police, local authorities, and other stakeholders for safe and efficient load movement.
Coordinate complex routes for extreme loads, minimizing disruption to traffic and ensuring safety.
Support training and development of new staff, contribute to performance evaluations, and guide team members toward success.
Reconcile cash collection and manage accounts, including overdue balances, while collaborating with various agencies.
Preferences will be given to candidates who have:
Knowledge of Bureau of Motor Vehicles regulations for overlimit loads
Proficient in data entry, record management, and correcting data
Understanding of axle weights, bridge weight limits, and equipment
Experience with cash reconciliation and financial reporting
Strong map reading and data transcription skills
Ability to work quickly and accurately with names, numbers, and codes
Minimum Qualifications: (Entry level knowledges, skills, and/or abilities may be acquired through, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO the following coursework/training and/or experience.)
Training, education, or experience in office and administrative support work that demonstrates
o competency in applying a proficient knowledge of modern office practices to perform advanced administrative support tasks requiring specialized skills, and
o the ability to use independent judgment, initiative, and discretion to make determinations on varied matters.
All positions in this classification assume the qualifications of: Office Assistant I, Office Assistant II, Office Associate I and Office Associate II.
