Within a centralized financial aid services environment, evaluates, approves, and awards financial aid to students in accordance with federal, state, and university regulations, policies, and operating guidelines. Assesses financial needs of students, and advises students and parents regarding financial aid options, processes, and requirements. Participates as appropriate in systems/procedures planning and management; implements and coordinates specific individual programs and/or assignments, in accordance with the overall objectives of the department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Analyzes and evaluates financial viability of students and families and provides advice and counsel regarding available financial aid opportunities, eligibility requirements, and the application process.

2. Administer, manage, reconcile and coordinate all processing activities for the State of New Jersey grant programs, such as the Tuition Assistance Grant, EOP, NJ Stars, Urban, Distinguished and Garden State Scholars programs.

3. Serves as customer service supervisor for counter customer service. Develops and maintains rotating schedule.

4. Review and analyze daily traffic patterns (phone, in-person visitations, etc.), and make recommendations on improving service.

5. Develop, oversee, and evaluate customer service staff member’s job performance.

6. Acts as a liaison for Student Financial Services call center, distributes, collects, and maintains all departmental telephone inquiries.

7. Responds to inquiries and research and resolves problems related to transactions handled by the unit; serves as liaison with other constituencies in the resolution of day-to-day administrative and operational issues.

8. Serves as liaison with state, federal, tribal, and other agencies; keeps abreast of student assistance opportunities and program regulations.

9. Coordinates and conducts workshops and/or presentations to students, parents, and/or other interested parties on financial aid policy and procedural issues.

10. Serves as the department outreach coordinator, developing programs and outreach activities for students and staff.

11. Acts as the liaison for various institutional programs and special student populations, such as EOP, and Pre-Med and Pre-Dent programs.

12. This position answers all the inquiries that come in from the call center. When there are questions that the call center cannot handle or escalated calls that need to be handled within 24 hours, this position investigates and provides a solution to the issue. When students and/or families email the financial aid mailbox with questions, this position provides that assistance.

13. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree; at least 1 to 3 years of experience that are directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
