JOB OVERVIEW:

Incollaborationwith the Department of Psychiatry’s executive director and associate chief(s), the administrative director (AD) functions as the senior administrative leader within the department’s research enterprise. The AD participates in all levels of research affairs, negotiations, and discussions with key internal and external stakeholders and sets the administrative direction for the department withrespectto grants. They lead the research enterprise across all programs in the department, while ensuring that administrative, financial, compliance and management operations are appropriately accomplished, monitored, and reported.

The AD is accountable for the planning, development, implementation, and measurement of research administrative activities including financial management, people andresource allocation, and compliance.

This is a hybrid position for which most work can be done remotely. Some onsite time is expected, especially as the individual hired orients to the role and department.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for the overallstrategic planning, compliance, andhands-onfiscal management of all research activity within the department, which totals over $90 million annually through over 800 separate funds.

Provides support, guidance, and training to over 300 principal investigators and research administrative staff on research administration activities and issues.

Accountable for the hiring, training, supervising, and professional development of six direct report research administrative staff and over a dozen indirect reports, such as program managers and research assistants, working closely with HR.

Collaborates with departmentalleadershipand Principal Investigators to continually assess and recommend changes in the policies, procedures, structure and functioning of research programs.

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred.

7+ years of directly related experience, including pre- and post-award research grants management experience, and 3+ years of supervisory experience.

Leadershipskills. The ability to provide support, direction, delegation and coaching to staff and to handle sensitive issues confidentially and thoughtfully.

Ability to prioritize and adapt in an environment with evolving regulations and needs, and independently make appropriate and timely decisions.

Strong interpersonal andcommunication skills. Proven ability to interact with all members of the organization in ways that enhance understanding,respect, cooperation, andproblem solving.
