JOB DESCRIPTION:This position consists of professional services work in a busy, 18-person office. The Treasurer’s Office is looking for an individual who is ready to take on a challenging but rewarding position that is unique to State Government. Each year, thousands of Mainers misplace financial assets, perhaps funds in a bank account, an uncashed payroll check, or an unclaimed insurance policy. The Treasurer’s office is responsible for safeguarding these funds until the rightful owner can be found. The successful candidate will be an individual who has a passion for providing exceptional customer service, strong communication skills, a desire to be a part of a team, and a positive attitude.

Tasks include, but are not limited to:

Use established procedures based upon current law to review claims to verify ownership of lost financial assets.

Receive calls (as a member of a 4-person ‘call center’) from the public; answer questions about the Unclaimed Property program and help claimants file their claims.

Follow up requests for additional information.

Serve as part of a 4-person team with the dedicated goal of reviewing claims to return lost money to Maine citizens, a program that receives approximately $20 million each year of unclaimed funds.

Document scanning and quality assurance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Training, education, or experience in office and administrative support work that demonstrates 1) competency in applying a solid knowledge of modern office practices to perform complex, varied office support tasks, and 2) the ability to use independent decision-making on the appropriate processes to follow, information to process, and actions to take in accordance with standard procedures. All positions in this classification assume the qualifications of: Office Assistant I, Office Assistant II, and Office Associate I.
